The ingredients source in any form of art are so vast, no wonder we often do not know where to start with. Before you start purchasing anything, it is good to know which ingredient that you really likes or the person you want to give the piece of your art to likes. If you are selling it, you will want to know if your customers like it. Do some research before buying everything.
Here are some areas that worth research into:
1. What ranges of work are you making?
Do you want to create something you or your customer can wear/use everyday? Is it an art deco or is it going to be a stunning piece for a special event?
2. Think of your niche, what is it?
Think of the special features and elements that you like to highlight in your items. For instance, it could be a series of handmade silver items. Hence, your items are all going to be design with silver in mind. Immediately, you will eliminate a lot of other thought for other alloys that you don't have to invest into.
3. Who are your buyers?
If you want to make your hobby into a business, the priority for this question would be on the top of the list. You will want to study more of your potential clients. What are their age group? Where are they from? What are their gender? Strike a balance between what they like and what you like to offer. No doubt that your products are suppose to make your client feel good but at the same time there are certain quality or value in your product you might want to hold onto. It could be a particularly type of style that you like to preserve for the niche you are in. Once you have decided, this will help you to think and design something that will best presented your art work to your potential clients.
4. Where to buy your ingredients?
Do a research on your local suppliers, get in touch and contact them and don't be afraid to ask relevant question. A supplier who reply you promptly every time you ask a question will be most likely the more pleasant one you like to deal with. It shows that they have good system in their work. Of course, you will like to do some research on the pricing too. You could also approach online suppliers, some of them really have good system and good products with great quality and reasonable prices. Most of the established online suppliers will invest into a great website, if you are new in online shopping, do spend some time studying the profile of the online suppliers. Use google and other social platform to perform profiling.
5. How much are you going to spend on your ingredients?
Now, to be able to figure this part out, you will need to know the size of your project. Is it a hobby project or you are actually thinking of starting an on line shop or taking your items to the bazaar. Knowing the bigger picture in mind will help you to get the best estimation of how much to spend on the ingredients. Take note that you will might have to save some money for packaging, shipping or renting a booth etc.
If all this are overwhelming to you already, start with just one area in your research from the above. Patience protect your passion, allows it to grow and happy growing~~
