Real Life Story #5 R.Scott Duncan- The Chosen One by His Art in Photography

All of us like to take charge and have everything under our control. Having to make a ton of decisions are one of our daily routines. We make choices and place our best hope in the choices that we make. As for R. Scott Duncan, this is what he has got to say:

“I believe in a roundabout way that PHOTOGRAPHY HAS CHOSEN ME.”

How could this happen? Continue to read about Scott and his journey in photography…..

“I enjoyed art as a child, whether it was painting, drawing, photography or music. I was probably 10 or 12 years old and I had an old Kodak 110 camera. I enjoyed taking pictures back then but waiting 3 or more days for the film to be developed wasn't quick enough for a kid. Later on as a teenager, deciding whether to invest in 200 or 400 film, 12 or 24 exposure, or how many flash cubes became more of a financial burden to me. I slowly lost interest in photography for a while….

"Whereas another passion of mine, which was music, took off well after I first attended my first concert at the age of 10. I learned to play the guitar and bass, then went on to study jazz bass at Wichita State University. When I moved to Los Angeles, I began performing at local venues such as the Roxy, Troubadour, and Bogart's. I finally hung it up in the mid 90's, after a touch of success, although I still continue to enjoy music and pick up the bass guitar occasionally.

After music, I found there was still a part of me that liked to create and I started to miss that so much. After trying several things, I just wasn't finding my right creative outlet.

Suddenly, I rediscovered photography again when my Golden Retriever, Logan, came into my life. We would go to the beach and I would take endless pictures of him playing in the ocean. I'd try new surroundings and settings. My passion for photography was reborn!

From there, I started investing more time and energy in the art, developing my skills and learning as much as I could. I love to be knee deep in the ocean shooting photos. It's an exciting yet calming feeling all at the same time.

Meeting people whom share the same interest excites me too, whether it is talking about photography with a fellow photographer or just chatting with someone about a particular piece, I enjoy people and conversation.
I would like to travel more and capture more of the world the way I see it. Also, meeting more people and continue to learn from experiences through photography.”

Looking at all these stunning pictures, I am deeply inspired by the movements of nature that have been captivated in Scott's Photographs. To me, it seems like Scott has captured the movements of nature in stillness. The projection of boldness, contrast and colors have deeply moved my spirit and touched my heart.

Passion can always be the best teacher who lead us, guide us and show us the path of life learning if we allow it. Some choose to bury it, some have chosen to follow it. How about you?
