Argentium Silver

ARGENTIUM SILVER

Argentium silver is well known of its great quality among artisans and have been term as "The New White Gold" by authorities in its field. It is a more superior product than silver plated product and is purer, brighter and whiter than the traditional sterling silver.

Its fine quality which is highly tarnish resistant than traditional 925 sterling silver requires almost no maintenance, saving makers and wearers lot of time and maintenance costs. Due to this reason, it is priced higher than the normal sterling silver. Its alloy contains of 92.5% of sterling silver have still categorized it in the category of 925 sterling silver. However, instead of making up the rest with 7.5% of copper, it replaces 1.2% of copper with Germanium, resulted the higher quality of higher end silver.
Argentium silver is produced using only recycled silver, giving an opportunity to every individual to have a part on saving our mother earth.
Argentium was invented in 1996 by Peter Johns, a professor of silversmithing at Middlesex University in England. Its purity and brightness of all have been foreseen to achieve a new standard in high end jewelry market.

Silver oxidizes due to various chemical reaction, this is a natural process of all silver products. The process can happen faster or slower depends on how and in what conditions it had exposed to. The normal ways people use to avoid this happening is to coat or plate silver with an extra layer of other alloys. But as in the rule of nature, everything has a life span and nothing will stays forever. Plated or coated jewelry too, will be worn off maybe in 6 months - 1 year time, again depends on how it was made and how often it is worn and how well it is being taken care off.

The question should be asking really is: what is the true value of what I am getting or offering instead of asking  will it tarnish?

As a jewelry maker and from my own experience with Argentium silver, it is really a magical alloy for me to work with. Not that it is shinier, it is also very easy to bring back the shine. For some pieces that is simple, I could just wash it with mild soap and brush it with soft bristle tooth brush to bring back the shine. Isn't that easy? It is only with those more intricate pieces that I made with lots of curls and weaves that need a little more process to bring back the shine. Personally, I love this silver and bring it in all the way from US to my own country, regardless of the pr icy shipping fees incurred. I have been using it for 4 years now, it quality continues to marvelous me.

Feel free to ask me if you like to know more about Argentium silver.
